Irrigation is an extremely important part of agriculture. So Midplains Ag dedicated a day to looking at technologies and methods that improve irrigation and improve agriculture.
And it went so well last September, the Elgin-based company immediately started planning their 2017 event.
Midplains Ag is a full-service precision ag consultation group, headquartered in the rolling hills near Elgin. The company opened its doors in April of 2013 to begin helping farm owners and operators in our region collect and analyze georeferenced data and implement decisions based on that analysis. We work with wide range of data sets including those from imagery, soils data, and yield data. We also offer products and services that we have carefully selected to assist in that data collection and analysis.
Rich Uhrenholdt is the founder and president of Midplains Ag and said that the Irrigation Field Day was created for the farmers.
"Water is a big issue for Nebraska" Uhrenholdt said, "And I just thought a field day that was oriented towards water management and technology for people who are working toward improving water management , it's an important thing for Nebraska to do."
There were vendors and speakers throughout the day to explain the importance of irrigation along with demonstrating new technology.
"It all ties into the bigger picture" Ryan Hemenway of Midplains Ag said. "Of course it is all agriculture, it's the technology in agriculture and being able to manage your crops better. It all comes back down to not only controlling but managing the fields."
Several hundred people came out throughout the day for the speakers, vendors, and displays out in the field.
"This doesn't just help the farmers, it helps everyone because you really need to know how to manage water if you're using that much of it," Elgin FFA President Marie Meis said. "And farmers are using a lot of it. So this is a really good way to bring the people who know about the water, to the farmers who are using the water."
The 2017 Irrigation Field Day will be Aug. 30.
