A NEW METHOD OF NITROGEN MANAGEMENT

The cost of farming has increased dramatically this year and the largest part of your bill will be fertilizer and the largest part of the fertilizer bill will be nitrogen fertilizer.

While the environmental problems associated with the use of nitrogen fertilizer have been recognized for a long time, the economic value of nitrogen fertilizer has never been questioned. However, over the past few months there has been a huge increase in the cost of nitrogen fertilizer and even the availability of nitrogen fertilizer for this year’s crops is in question. There is a critical need to reevaluate our nitrogen management methods.

For various reasons including the inability of soils to store crop available nitrogen, the difficulty in predicting the contribution of crop available nitrogen from organic sources and the difficulty of obtaining timely, high-resolution, and accurate data makes precise nitrogen management difficult.

WE’VE BEEN WORKING WITH UNL TO DEVELOP A NEW METHOD OF NITROGEN MANAGEMENT.

For several years, we have been working with UNL to validate a new method of scheduling nitrogen. This method, designed to work with fertigation, uses high resolution imagery to collect data and analyze the data in real-time. This solves the issues discussed above.

BENEFITS:
  • It is proactive rather than reactive – staying ahead of stress and preserves yield potential.
  • Unlike soil and tissue sampling, it is high resolution, literally sampling every plant and management zone.
  • Unlike soil sampling results are timely and can be used before conditions change.
  • It isolates N stress from other stress factors.
  • It can work in combination with biologicals, cover crops, and manure.
  • You only apply nitrogen if it is needed.
  • It improves the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizer by an average of 25%.
  • It is backed by UNL research.
  • You are free to buy fertilizer and other products wherever you want.
