Our workforce here at Midplains Ag attends workshops held by the Underwriting (AIPs) companies, twice a yearly to keep updated with the current & upcoming changes occurring in crop insurance. Recently, after attending workshops for RCIS and AgriSompo this August. we would like to briefly mention a few items that might affect your operation. For more information about any of these items give us a call.
- Margin Protection or MP policies. These policies are designed to offer financial protection from large price increases in inputs like we saw last spring. They have become more popular in eastern states, but a few policies were also sold in Nebraska this year. Sales closing date is September 30th which is coming fast. So, if you’re interested in learning about these, please call, the sooner the better.
- If you plan on cutting silage, make sure you talk to an adjustor first!! Give us a call and we will have an adjustor contact you. The harvest season will be upon us soon. We are hoping that everyone stays safe.
- Most dryland fields will have a claim this year. Although keeping proper records on corners and small fields can be difficult, proper records will be very valuable. If you need help knowing what proper records are please call us or your adjuster.
- If aflatoxin is a concern, samples must be taken by an adjustor in the field or truck before it goes in the bin. Samples taken in the bin are not acceptable.
- The RMA has just announced new programs on organic and organic transitions. - Unless the RMA announces a change, MPCI premiums will be due at the end of September.
- Make sure that you protect your rangeland with a PRF policy. Rainfall indexes this summer was well below normal. The images below when the index is below 90% policies at the 90% level will have triggered a claim. It is hard to say what next year will look like.
