WAY-OUT-WEST 4-H CLUB VISITS THE GREENHOUSE

Mud, rain, wind, and cold couldn’t stop the kids of the Way-Out-West 4-H club from visiting our new geothermal heated greenhouse on Sunday, March 14th. As you can see, we even had flooding in the greenhouse from all the rain! Once the outside dirtwork is finished flooding won’t be such an issue. The kids learned about how the geothermal system works and what kinds of fruits and vegetables will be growing inside in the future.

‍Then they all dug in and got busy planting seeds in trays to be ready for transplanting into the grow beds later.

We all had a lot of fun planting, and the kids even got to plant a few seeds each to take home. It was a great way to get our hands in the dirt when it was too cold and rainy outside!

We’re looking forward to having some radishes, lettuce, spinach, and kale ready to harvest in the next two weeks. We’ve got carrots, cabbage, broccoli, green beans, and lots of other veggies planted so far, though it will be awhile before they’re ready to harvest.

If you, your family, or your kids’ classes or clubs would like to tour the greenhouse as we get it up and running, or you’d like to purchase fresh produce from the greenhouse or just learn more, contact Rachel at 402-843-6105 to find out how.
